California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence (cCARE) Under Investigation for Data Breach of Patient Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to unauthorized access to patient information held by California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence (cCARE). cCARE provides comprehensive cancer care, research opportunities, and support services to patients throughout Central California.
On June 27, 2025, cCARE reported the breach to the California Attorney General. According to the report, cCARE discovered an email phishing incident within its Fresno branch (cCARE - Fresno) on June 13, 2025. The incident resulted in unauthorized access to a limited number of email and SharePoint accounts between December 13 and December 16, 2024. Unauthorized actors accessed certain emails and files containing patient information. The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, addresses, dates of birth, financial account details, diagnoses, lab results, medications, treatment information, health insurance and claims information, provider names and treatment dates, and Social Security numbers.
