Wayne Memorial Hospital Under Investigation for Data Breach of Over 100,000 Patient Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to the unauthorized access of the sensitive information of 163,440 patients of Wayne Memorial Hospital (“WMH”) in Jessup, Georgia.
On June 3, 2024, WMH discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to its network, encrypted its data, and left a ransom note on its network. WMH later learned that the unauthorized actor gained access to a limited number of WMH systems between May 30, 2024, and June 3, 2024.
Although the breach began in May 2024, Wayne Memorial Hospital did not begin notifying affected individuals until on or around August 27, 2025, which may have violated state and federal laws. The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state identification numbers, user identification and password, financial account numbers, credit or debit card numbers, credit card expiration dates or CVV codes, Medicare or Medicaid numbers, health insurance member numbers, healthcare provider numbers, diagnoses, medical history, treatment information, prescription information, and lab test results or images.
If your personal information was impacted by this incident, you may be at risk of identity theft and other serious violations of your privacy. As a result, you may be entitled to money damages and an injunction requiring changes to WMH’s cybersecurity practices.
