PNC Financial Services Under Investigation for Data Breach of 740,000 Customer Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to unauthorized access to the sensitive information of 740,000 customers of PNC Financial Services (“PNC”), a Pennsylvania-based bank with 2,200 branches nationwide.
On or around September 2025, an unauthorized actor accessed files containing sensitive data. This data was leaked to a client as well. On September 7, 2025, cybercriminal group Market Exchange claimed that it acquired and planned to sell 740,000 records belonging to PNC in its possession. PNC began emailing notice letters to customers on or around September 10, 2025, and disclosed the breach to the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General on or around September 16, 2025.
The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, addresses, account numbers, and Social Security numbers.
