Belk Under Investigation for Data Breach of Customer Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to unauthorized access to customer information held by Belk, Inc. (Belk), a North Carolina-based department store chain.
As of May 8, 2025, Belk identified unauthorized access to its network between May 7, 2025, and May 11, 2025. As a result of the cyberattack, Belk disconnected affected systems, restricted network accesses, reset passwords, and rebuilt impacted systems, disrupting Belk’s operations for several days.
Although the breach occurred in May 2025, Belk did not begin notifying affected individuals until on or around June 5, 2025, which may have violated state and federal laws. The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, and customer orders, including purchased items.
If your personal information was impacted by this incident, you may be at risk of identity theft and other serious violations of your privacy. As a result, you may be entitled to money damages and an injunction requiring changes to Belk’s cybersecurity practices.
