WestJet Airlines Under Investigation for Data Breach of 1.2 Million Customer Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to unauthorized access to the sensitive information of 1.2 million customers of WestJet Airlines (WestJet), a Canada-based airline that operates routes in numerous United States cities.
On or around June 13, 2025, an unauthorized third party gained access to WestJet’s systems and acquired files containing sensitive data.
Although the breach occurred in June 2025, WestJet did not begin notifying affected individuals until on or around September 29, 2025, which may have violated state and federal laws. The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, dates of birth, mailing addresses, information about travel documents used when travelling with WestJet (e.g. passports or other government issued identification documents or numbers), accommodations requested or complaints filed, WestJet credit card identifier types, WestJet rewards member identification numbers, and rewards points balance information.
If your personal information was impacted by this incident, you may be at risk of identity theft and other serious violations of your privacy. As a result, you may be entitled to money damages and an injunction requiring changes to WestJet’s cybersecurity practices.
