Optima Tax Relief Under Investigation for Data Breach of Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach impacting the sensitive personal information of customers of Optima Tax Relief, a California-based tax resolution firm.
On June 6, 2025, a ransomware group called Chaos claimed responsibility for the data breach. The group claims to have stolen 69 gigabytes of data.
Optima Tax Relief has failed to inform its customers whether their private information was stolen, but Chaos ransomware has posted corporate data and customer tax files, including Social Security numbers, phone numbers, and home addresses.
