Cierant Corporation Under Investigation for Data Breach of Over 232,000 Records
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach that led to unauthorized access of the sensitive information of 232,506 individuals held by Cierant Corporation, a Connecticut-based marketing and software services provider.
On December 10, 2024, Cierant Corporation discovered it was impacted by a vulnerability in the third-party transfer tool VLTrader. After an investigation, Cierant Corporation learned that an unauthorized actor may have gained access to personal or health data that was processed by Cierant Corporation on behalf of third-party health plans, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Although the breach occurred in December 2024, Cierant Corporation did not begin notifying affected individuals until on or around July 3, 2025, which may have violated state and federal laws. The following information may have been compromised in the breach: names, addresses, dates of birth, treatment-related dates, generic descriptions of services received, provider names, medical record numbers, health plan beneficiary numbers, claims numbers, and/or plan member account numbers, and premium information.
If your personal information was impacted by this incident, you may be at risk of identity theft and other serious violations of your privacy. As a result, you may be entitled to money damages and an injunction requiring changes to Cierant Corporation’s cybersecurity practices.
